The town hall was originally located in the middle of Storegade, immediately east of Torvet. It was ravaged by the Swedes in 1659 and then demolished. In 1854, Stege Old Town Hall was built according to drawings by MG Bindesbøll. In this place, before 1853, was a grocery farm, which apparently escaped the great city fire of 1774, and whose entire property also included the present spray house plot, the land register behind the detention building. In 1902-03 electricity was installed in the building and in 1966 central heating was installed. The arrest was used until 1966. In 1968, after Møn Municipality was formed, the Old Town Hall functioned as a police station, and the detention on the ground floor was arranged together with a kitchenette, cloakroom and toilet, in what was originally one large room. In 1973, the Møn district was closed down, and the district was placed under Vordingborg, but there was still a biting place in Stege, and Bindesbøll's courthouse was still used for bailiff and probate cases. Around 1995, the roof was relocated. Stege Gamle Rådhus' cultural-historical value is linked to the building's original function as a town hall, courtroom and jail, which together constituted the legislative and the judiciary. The fact that Stege Gamle Rådhus later functioned as a police station completes the trinity with the executive power, this is expressed in the later arranged detention, where the fox door with a hole in the hole is still preserved.
